Detection of Heavy Metals and Antibiotic Residues in Poultry Feeds in Selected Areas of Bangladesh

Presence of heavy metals and antibiotics in the poultry feed even low concentrations is considered as potentially toxic may cause hazardous effects on animal leading to accumulate food chain. This study was performed assess status residue different samples collected from local markets Mymensingh Kishoreganj sadar upazila Bangladesh. A total 40 were analyzed detect concentration three metals- chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd) lead (Pb) using atomic absorption spectrophotometry antibiotic residues thin layer chromatography. survey also conducted among 30 sellers areas whose knowledge regarding presence evaluated. Survey data showed that about 80% literate whereas 20% illiterate. Around 23% had 90% feeds its detrimental public health effects. The average Cr, Cd Pb contents 0.402, 1.630 18.314 mgkg-1, respectively. content Cr 7.884 0.006 respectively, below detection level this area. results upazila, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline oxytetracycline both upazilas present at alarming levels most which could be harmful for well human health. Therefore, it suggested take proper steps monitoring regular with sources identification we community-based awareness stakeholder.
